Phares, Theresa Otto
Theresa Otto was born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1866 or 1867. Her parents later moved west, settling in Humboldt County, California with the young Theresa. She attended the Eureka public schools, later returning to teach at her former school from 1887 to 1900. In 1900, Theresa temporarily left teaching to attend the University of California on a scholarship.

After receiving her college degree, Theresa found a position teaching German at the Lick School of Industrial Arts. When the Lux School of Industrial Arts opened in 1912, Theresa became the dean of the school. She served as Dean of Lux until her resignation in 1927.

In 1927, Theresa married A.D. Phares, who was a civil engineer. Both during her marriage and after her husband’s death, she maintained correspondence with some of her old Lux students. Theresa died on May 28, 1947, at the age of 81.
